This song was written by Jeff Moss and first performed by Jim Henson on Sesame Street. Single bananas don’t grow — they grow in bunches. My video features harp, of course, but also a banana piano. Yes, they are real bananas, and they can be played because they are hooked up to a special synthesizer that recognizes a different note for each banana. The eight bananas on my banana piano grew together.

Jim Henson originally performed Joe Raposo’s “being Green” as Kermit the Frog. It was later covered by many performers, including Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, and Van Morrison, among others. But none of them (except Kermit) was actually green. So, after watching the “Wicked” movie I got to thinking… why didn’t Elphaba sing it? She actually is… green.

This might be my very favorite of the videos I've made. Most people associate “Mah Nà Mah Nà” with the Muppets or Benny Hill, but it was actually written by an Italian composer named Piero Umiliani in 1968 for a film entitled “Svezia, inferno e paradiso” (Sweden: Heaven and Hell). In my mind it will always be a Muppets song, but the Muppets version didn’t debut on Sesame Street or The Muppets Show. It was broadcast as early as 1969 (November 30th) on the Ed Sullivan Show. The rest is history. Mah Nà Mah Nà!
