I wrote a musical review in the early '70s entitled, “Speak First, It’s Your Dime: A Musical Adaptation of the Saint Louis Telephone Directory With Excerpts From The Boston Directory in One Act”. I don’t think a modern audience would get a lot of the references, since it was originally written before the government broke up AT&T in to eight smaller companies because AT&T had the monopoly on telephony. No smart phones or cellular service. My wife thinks I should write a second act. The show stopper was written for the second production because by then the breakup had happened. It was called, “Broken Up, Me and Ma Bell”. But my favorite musical number was “Live Wire”, and after all we do still have land lines! It’s an old fashioned soft shoe number about how much the telephone wire loves his job.

It is usually dry enough at the beginning of the season to mow, but I hadn’t realized how bad it had gotten. I started mowing, and very soon my lawn tractor was hopelessly stuck. So I did what I had done in the past... I went for my car, losing a shoe in the mud, and backed it into what I was accustomed to being the dry part of the yard, closest to the driveway. I tied a stout rope to the tractor, and to the car and proceeded to tow the tractor out of the mud. Except the car was now mired in mud, and I couldn’t get it out. I called AAA. When they arrived they had brought a flat-bed truck that couldn’t navigate the geometry of my driveway vs. the yard. So Triple-A called Triple-A and eventually the right kind of truck arrived. He pulled out my car, and I meekly asked whether he would also rescue the tractor. He very kindly did. This video is set in the actual yard where this true story occurred. There are actually a lot of musical instruments on the International Space Station (ISS) , but, to date, no harp. And, yeah there is or was a gorilla suit up there that belonged to Astronaut Scott Kelly. A day or two after I wrote this song I did notice a harp on the USS Discovery (Star Trek: Discovery) in a lovely scene in which two of the characters play cello and piano together —neither played the harp, but it was there in space. However, this series takes place 1100+  years into the future, so we have a long way to go!
