The Circle and the Serpent: My version of “Can The Serpent Be Housebroken” is based on a version Chris Smither used to play in coffeehouses in the late ‘60s, of Eric Von Schmidt’s classic song, based on the well loved 1907 hymn. I offer this with the hope that someone will record a version based on another version based on an interpretation based on my rendition of Chris Smither’s interpretation of Eric Von Schmidt’s genius reworking of Ada R. Habershon’s words and Charles H. Gabriel’s melody. I don’t know why she swallowed a fly… perhaps she’ll die…
