Frank Silver and Irving Cohn’s 1923 hit was a bit of nonsense, and a brilliant one at that!  It was the number one song for five weeks, and has been performed by everyone from Benny Goodman to Spike Jones to The Muppets.  ItThe lyrics were based on an actual Greek fruit stand owner on Long Island.
