Richard Berry wrote “Louie Louie” in 1955, and his band RIchard Berry and the Pharaohs released the first recording of the song in 1957. Berry based it on the latin "El Loco Cha Cha" by Rene Touzet, but also wanted a calypso rhythm to his song. So the Calypso Dans got together to see what a calypso version would sound like.
